It is common for professional stylists to take an indirect path towards a career in fashion. Some get involved in fashion styling after a stint in journalism, while others make a switch after having worked in the area of fashion retail. There are many different routes leading to a career in fashion styling, but a young Polish woman has chosen a rather unconventional path by blogging her way to a successful career in styling.
Natalia Grytsuk is a Ukrainian born Polish stylist who attained popularity in Poland’s fashion circles — through her incredibly popular blog on the subject of styling. The blog entitled Glamourina was launched in early 2011, and through it Grytsuk’s talent came to the notice of the Polish Glitterati. Her career-graph assumed an upward slope when she was invited to photo shoots by popular brands such as Diva and Gatta.
A Chat with Natalia Grytsuk
Few people manage to win recognition and acclaim in a short span of time, and Natalia Grytsuk is definitely one such person. My interview with this young, beautiful and exceptionally talented woman enabled me to learn a great deal about her very interesting life. Here is an excerpt of our conversation:
How did you get interested in fashion?
I developed an interest in art and fashion since a very early age. My mother has always been a fashion enthusiast and I’ve inherited her love for stylish dressing. I started dressing stylishly since an early age, and this made me enviable to other kids. Mother made great clothes for me, and her keen interest in my dressing really fostered my fashion sense.
Tell us something about your early life?
I was born in the Ukrainian city of Kiev and that is where I spent much of my life. Kiev is a very beautiful and green city, full of parks and nice buildings.
I stayed in Kiev till the end of my school days. I can remember that I used to be the best pupil of my class, and while at school I had realized that art would one day be an important aspect of my life.
What did you do after completing school?
I completed high school in the year 2005 and after that I moved to Poland for a university education. In June 2011 I graduated from the Warsaw University in the faculty of International Relations. During my studies I learned a great deal about law and history. I also learnt a lot about other cultures through my interaction with fellow students.
The years spent at the University were some of the best years of my life, and during this time I was able to ascertain my career objectives based on my interest and talent. I started Glamourina (my blog) in early 2011, and through it I was able to find my place in the fashion industry.
The Glamourina fashion blog is definitely a big success, were you aware from the very beginning that it would eventually lead to a career in fashion?
I’ve always been interested in fashion and the blog was intended to be an outlet for my creative pursuits. I knew that someday I would build a career in fashion, but I hadn’t imagined that the blog would make it happen so fast. In fact, I was working at a financial institution when the blog was launched, and I still hold that job.
Let’s hear in your own words how you got involved in the world of fashion?
My blog Glamourina gave me the means by which I could express my creative talents in fashion. I did not know that its readership would increase so rapidly and bring my talent to the notice of international fashion brands. But, it so happened that the styling ideas which I shared through my blog, earned a lot of appreciation and I got invitations to work with big fashion brands. Now, I am regularly invited to fashion events and I also get offers from companies to promote their products.
What have been the highlights of your fashion career so far?
I would say that the photo shoot with Diva and Gatta, and the project with BlackBerry at the Warsaw Fashion Weekend have so far been the highlights of my fashion career. I have come to love these events, because they offer an opportunity to interact with people who are associated with fashion and lifestyle industry.
Finally, please tell us something about your future plans?
I look forward to becoming a designer and having my own clothing line.
